Reducing our impact on the environment is an integral part of our culture and operating practices. Our approach is to integrate environmental strategy into core operations. Therefore we focus our efforts on the continuous improvement of the environmental performance of our operations, and working with our customers to ensure that these benefits are communicated to the end consumer.
We produce 60% of our total electrical needs (4MW) through a technology known as cogeneration. This technique utilises the steam from our manufacturing process that would otherwise have been wasted.
Advanced air extraction systems are installed throughout our plant to constantly filter and purify the air that is expelled. This ensures that no potentially harmful substances are released into the outside environment.
All liquid by-products used in the manufacturing process are neutralized before discharge into an on-site effluent treatment plant and wherever possible water is recycled to reduce wastage. Biological waste water treatment 40.000 m³/week.
Reducing greenhouse emissions directive 2003/87/EC sets limits of greenhouse gas emissions for companies operating within the EU. Klopman is performing far more effectively than required. The CO2 emission limit set for Klopman for CO2 is around 43,833 tonnes/year (= 1.09 kg per metre of fabric), while emissions produced during 2015 were less than 35,000 tonnes/year (= 0,89 kg/m).
Klopman has recently replaced the traditional lamps with led lights in order to further reduce its environmental impact. LED lights not only are an eco-firendly form of lighting but also they are safer, more durable and more efficient and more cost- effective. This change allowed the company to save 1470 MWH per year and to reduce CO2 emissions per year up to 520 Tons.
Klopman is compliant with international standards and certifications ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 18001 for environmental management and REACH for chemical control. Klopman has also recently achieved the prestigious STeP - Sustainable Textile Production - certification with the maximum level of ranking: level 3. More information on "certifications".
