How is Lyocell made?
TENCEL™ Lyocell is known for its innovative closed loop production process. Wood pulp is transformed into cellulosic fibers, while more than 99.8% of the solvent are recovered and fed back into the loop, resulting in close-to-zero wastage. According to the Higg Materials Sustainability Index (Higg MSI), TENCEL™ Lyocell has a significantly lower environmental impact than generic lyocell in the categories of abiotic depletion of fossil fuels (up to 39%), global warming (up to 53%), water consumption (up to 69%) and eutrophication (up to 60%).*
* Compared to generic (unbranded) lyocell Results based on LCA standards (ISO 14040/44) and available via Higg MSI (Version 3.8)
TENCEL™ fibers with certified contributions to climate actions
All TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers we use are ClimatePartner certified.
This is part of Lenzing’s bespoke climate action plan, which assesses the carbon footprint of the fibers, sets targets and implements measures to reduce emissions, supports verified climate projects, and fosters transparency along the supply chain.*
