In the late 1960's, American textile
manufacturer Bill Klopman, in conjunction with DuPont,
pioneered the development of the world's first polyester-blended
fabric for industrially washed workwear.
After extensive trials, the optimum performance fabric
was achieved – using a blend of 65% polyester/35%
cotton, the same blend which is still in use today.
Acclaimed as a huge success by
the US Laundry Association, Bill Klopman then set his
sights on Europe. Market research proved positive and
proposals were made to several European governments
for the construction of a high-tech manufacturing plant.
A site was located in Frosinone, Italy and this became
the manufacturing base for Klopman's presence in Europe...

Europe's first state-of-the-art manufacturing

introduces the concept of industrially laundered
polyester/cotton workwear fabrics throughout Europe
and establishes the links with leading garment
makers and laundries that are still in place today.
Klopman's Indestructible
and Superbandmaster fabrics become firmly established
with rental laundries who immediately recognise
the economic performance benefits they offer compared
to traditional 100% cotton. |

In recognition of the growing
importance of the European market the presidency
of Klopman is passed from the US to Jack O'Neill
in London who sees the company through extensive
growth and attainment of market leadership. |

Manufacturing of textured apparel
fabrics for leisurewear is established in Tralee,
Ireland, and Klopman quickly achieves market leadership
in this fabric area. |

Cotton-rich fabrics introduced

$100million investment plan to introduce new technologies

Klopman recognises the increasing

and separates product range into three distinctively
branded areas – image workwear, protectivewear

by the official welcoming personnel at the UK's

for the heritage and performance attributes of
authentic Klopman fabrics increases in the Apparel
sector – specifiers include Calvin Klein,
Dockers and Teddy Smith.
Another industry first, filling
a much-needed gap in the market for a multi-functional
protectivewear fabric, Klopman launches Megatec
which is fully EN-accredited for flame retardancy
and anti-staticity as well as for protection against
liquid chemical splash.

fabrics signficantly extended. Additions include
a range of fabrics offering unique antimicrobial
protection, a specialist fabric for anti-allergy
applications and a choice of fabrics to provide

Collection launched – a new range of fabrics
specifically designed to meet the growing demands
of the corporatewear market for the ideal combination
of appearance, comfort and practicality.
Klopman announces on-target
completion of a €5 million continuous improvement
programme as well as plans to extend weaving capacity
at a new greige production facility in Tunisia. |

Several
innovative new fabrics introduced including Titan,
the first of a new generation of workwear fabrics,
a collection of built-in odour defence shirting
fabrics and Megatec-K, a lightweight fabric ideal
for shirtings which is Klopman's most highly accredited
multi-functional protectivewear fabric to date.
Klopman becomes the first
polyester cotton fabric manufacturer to be awarded
prestigious EU Eco-label environmental accreditation.

announces substantial new investments (€6
million) in advanced dyeing & finishing manufacturing
equipment and information technology (IT) systems
to be installed in Frosinone.
As a result of testing by
the Hohenstein Institutes, Klopman's Starmaster
Comfort Stretch fabric is officially rated as
among the most comfortable fabrics available today.
Several new fabrics introduced, including Invincible,
the ultimate heavy-duty workwear fabric, as well
as a number of innovative new advanced protectivewear
fabrics. |

the first canvas stretch fabric to be introduced

for a wide range of garments and applications.

Three new fabrics launched: Showstar High Visibility
Yellow - an EN 471 accredited high visibility
stretch fabric, 210 Aerocool® - an advanced

lightweight, breathable
anti-static shirting.
A formalised approach to corporate social responsibility
sees Klopman detail commitment to best practice
in a number of key areas, including Our People,
Our Operations, Our Industry and The Environment,
together with a Code of Conduct defining the
key labour standards that Klopman has always
been committed to respecting in the workplace. |

Klopman celebrates 40th anniversary!
Klopman acquired by MW Unitexx S.A. a wholly-owned subsidiary of MW Corp of Mumbai, India - a significant development designed to enable Klopman, and Klopman customers, to capitalise on opportunities and operate on a truly global basis.
Several innovative new fabrics launched including
Klopman Vantage fabric featuring CORDURA® brand
technology, the first of a new generation of
high performance workwear fabrics offering the
optimum combination of exceptional abrasion resistance,
comfort and style.
In addition, and in keeping with Klopman’s
commitment to operate in an environmentally-friendly
and ethical manner, the first fabric to be made
with Fairtrade Certified Cotton is introduced. |
